The seat for the upholstered chair is a spring down cushion-- springs wrapped in medium density foam topped with a down feather cover. You can choose fabric or leather upholstery.

I like my wood seats- they are extremely comfortable. But sometimes you need a cushion. This chair has a thick upholstered seat. It is larger than the all wood swivel chairs, with a wider curved crest and nicely curved arms. It is a handsome chair, and works well at a large desk.
As does the "tucked arm" wood swivel, this chair tilts back or forward, raises up and down, and swivels. This is accomplished by the swivel mechanism underneath the seat. I use the best I can find, made either here or in Canada. I like the classic mechanical lift mechanism, but you can also order a seat with a gas piston lift.
