The Barn
After
a 2004 storm flooded the Jones Falls and my
workshop in Baltimore's historic Meadow Mill, I
moved both my home and studio to the country. The
studio is now located in an old bank barn
adjacent to the farmhouse where I live with my
family. It is small and cozy -- except on the
coldest days -- with a wonderful view.
Now the lower level houses the machine shop for
milling and rough shaping. Above is the bench
room. It's starting to shape up. But it will be a
work in process for years to come, as anyone
trying to fix up an old house knows.
When
we moved here, the lower area of the barn was
open, with room for an old car and tractor. The
floor was dirt and there was a large pile of coal
in the corner.
I built doors, put down a floor and added some insulation.
